Okay, we’re rounding out the week with a little title announcement catch-up. My plan had been to post a new UHD review each day all week, but then of course it became obvious that the Star Wars Blu-ray announcement was about to happen and that threw off the plan, as such things often do. I do have a review of Sony’s 4K UHD Blu-ray of Chappie in the works, which is a true 4K title, and I’ll have that for you Monday. Look for more UHD reviews next week as well.

That said, our own Tim Salmons has just posted a review of one of my favorite films of 2015, Ryan Coogler’s Creed, which is now available on Blu-ray from Warner Home Video. It’s a great film with tons of heart – a Rocky sequel that actually stands on its own beautifully. Stars Michael B. Jordan and Sylvester Stallone really shine in it. Do give it a look.  [Read on here…]

All right, while we wait for an official announcement of Star Wars: The Force Awakens on Blu-ray and DVD, let’s run down a little other new release news...

First, on the 4K UHD front, Amazon has just listed 20th Century Fox’s Deadpool for pre-order. No street date is yet listed, but presumably it will be day and date with regular Blu-ray and DVD.

Fox has also set A Royal Night Out for DVD release on 5/3, with the digital HD release due on 4/19.  [Read on here…]

All right, there’s not much in the way of news release news to report today, so I’ve got two quick items for you this afternoon…

First, I’ve just posted my in-depth review of Warner’s Mad Max: Fury Road in 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray format. The disc streets today. While it’s not a perfect presentation as far as 4K goes, it does offer a significant visual improvement upon the already excellent Blu-ray edition. Do check it out.  [Read on here…]

Happy Leap Day! All right, we’ve just posted our first Ultra HD Blu-ray review here at The Digital Bits, and its none other than Ridley Scott’s The Martian, which is now available in 4K from 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. Do check it out, as I think you’ll find it interesting (whether or not you intend to upgrade to UHD anytime soon).

I’m going to be posting a few more UHD title reviews this week here at The Bits, and then early next week I’ll post a larger column talking generally about my experiences with the format after a week’s worth of calibrating, testing, and viewing. I’ll give you my overall impressions, offer some advice on setup, and the like. [Read on here…]

We begin today with Tim’s last Pick-Ups Blu-ray review for this week: A look at Scream Factory’s The Curse/The Curse II: The Bite. Together, these two Z-grade flix were damn near enough to finally break our man’s sanity and send him into a late night reviewing rage (a genuine occupational hazard in this profession). Do check it out. LOL.

Meanwhile, Scream Factory has revealed that it’s working on Brian DePalma’s Raising Cain: Collector’s Edition, due on Blu-ray 6/28, along with a new Blu-ray edition of The Crush on 6/21. [Read on here…]

We start today with another Pick-Ups/Scream Factory BD review for you today from our own Tim Salmons: Blood and Lace. Be sure to check it out.

The big release news today is that Warner has just officially set Mad Max: Fury Road for 4K UHD release on 3/1 (SRP $44.95, but the Amazon price is just $29.99). It appears the disc will include the same special features from the previous Blu-ray version. The UHD will also include a Blu-ray copy as well as Digital HD. You can see the cover artwork (and Amazon pre-order links) below. [Read on here…]
