As you regular Bits readers will know, the Charlton Heston classic was restored by the folks at Warner Motion Picture Imaging late last year, and that restoration made its worldwide debut at the TCM Classic Film Festival in Hollywood back in April! (See our original reporting here on The Bits at the time.)
This represents genuinely new scan and restoration work by Warner MPI in conjunction with The Film Foundation. At the time, we said that the title was likely to make its debut on 4K disc sometime in the next 12 months. And now it’s finally been listed for pre-order as a 4K Steelbook on Gruv.
There’s no street date given and the final cover artwork isn’t yet shown, but I reached out quietly to our studio sources yesterday and have learned that it’s coming early in 2026 (probably as soon as Q1). You can pre-order it here on Amazon...
What’s more, Alan J. Pakula’s All the President’s Men (1976) is coming to 4K Steelbook around the same time! That of course is a cracking good political thriller about the Watergate scandal and the reporters who broke the story, played by the late Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman. You can pre-order that by clicking here or on the image below as well...
So watch for more details here on both of those releases in the coming weeks.
Also today, Eagle Pictures in Italy has recently launched pre-orders for a 4Kult 4K Ultra HD release of Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America (1984). The film is presented at the 229-minute length on 2 4K discs, with a Blu-ray as well (see their website here), and there’s also a more elaborate Prestige package with 2 4K discs, 2 Blu-rays, and 2 DVDs as well (you can see that here—note that the BDs are likely Region locked). The street date in Italy is 12/12. Check DiabolikDVD and other sources for import options, and it looks like it’s going to be listed on Amazon US as well (here and here). Here’s what the more Prestige version looks like…
Meanwhile, Lionsgate is releasing Antoine Fuqua’s Southpaw (2015) as a 4K Steelbook on 12/9—that’ll be up on Amazon widely.
And here’s a nice surprise: Amazon Prime appears to have quietly upgraded the excellent Star Trek: Picard – Season Three to 4K Digital! It’s upsampled of course (the show was captured digitally in 3.4k but post production was only completed in 2K resolution, which I’ve confirmed with showrunner Terry Matalas). But it still looks great. And curiously only Season Three has been so upgraded (though all three seasons do and always have included HDR). You can purchase Season Three in 4K Digital for $31.99. I don’t know if this means that a 4K disc release is being planned for 2026, but I do know this: the better that 4K Digital option sells, the more possible a 4K disc becomes. So if you’re interested, vote now with your spending! Anyway, it’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a Prime member.
All right, that’s all for today.
But a quick PSA: If you some of you aren’t yet subscribers to our Digital Bits Patreon page, you might want to consider signing up there because we’re going to be sharing some great upcoming 4K catalog news there in the coming weeks, stuff that we can’t always talk about here on the site in public yet. It’s also a great place to interact with your fellow Bits readers—we’re building a terrific community on Patreon. There are very affordable subscription options, and doing so really goes a long way to helping us keep The Bits website going now and into the future. So please do consider it. And thank you!
Back tomorrow with more. Stay tuned…
