My Two Cents
First things first this afternoon: I posted a review here at The Bits yesterday of John Sturges’ 1969 spaceflight drama Marooned on all-region import Blu-ray from the good folks at Imprint Films. It’s definitely worth tracking down for fans.
And I’ll have more new reviews this week as well, including my take on Criterion’s For All Mankind in 4K, which will be posted here on The Bits tomorrow.
Now then, let’s get to the main event for today’s My Two Cents update...
Last night I had the privilege of attending the debut screening of Robert Wise’s 4K-remastered Star Trek: The Motion Picture – Director’s Edition at Paramount, some 21 years after attending the premiere of the 2001 DVD version in the same theater. All right, we’ve got a bunch of new release news for you today, along with a bit of an update on the whole Mad Max 2 4K replacement disc situation, which—I know—has become frustrating. So let’s get right into it...
First up, CBS and Showtime have released Dexter: New Blood on Blu-ray, Blu-ray Steelbook, and DVD. Street date was 3/22. The set includes a 30-minute featurette.
Mill Creek Entertainment is releasing a King Ralph: Retro VHS Blu-ray on 6/21. Also coming that day is a Heart and Souls Retro VHS Blu-ray.
MVD will release two new MVD Rewind Collection titles, including Michael Cimino’s Desperate Hours (1990) and George Armitage’s Miami Blues (1990) on Blu-ray on 7/19. Note that they also have Robert Bierman’s Vampire’s Kiss (1988) and Don Murphy’s Monday Morning (1990 – aka Class of Fear) coming on Blu-ray on 6/21. You can see the cover artwork below the break.
Universal will release Joe Wright’s Cyrano on Blu-ray and DVD on 4/19, staring Peter Dinklage and Haley Bennett. [Read on here...]
We have a trio of new disc reviews for you all to enjoy today...
Stephen has taken a look at Dario Argento’s Phenomena (1985) on 4K Ultra HD from our friends at Synapse Films. It features an early performance by Jennifer Connelly, and the 4K is apparently pretty lovely.
Stephen has also reviewed Howard Hawks’ Man’s Favorite Sport? (1964) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics. The film stars Rock Hudson and Paula Prentiss.
And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Luis Valdez’s Zoot Suit (1982) on Blu-ray, also from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, featuring the great Edward James Olmos in an early role.

Stephen has turned in his thoughts on Lino Brocka’s Cain and Abel (1982) on Blu-ray from Kani Releasing, along with Valeriy Todorovskiy’s Hypnosis (2020) on Blu-ray from Altered Innocence, and Bill Condon’s Sister, Sister (1987) on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome.
And Tim has offered his thoughts on Paul Naschy’s Panic Beats (1983) on Blu-ray from Mondo Macabro, along with Patrice Rhomm’s Draguse/Le Bijou D’Amour on Blu-ray from Vinegar Syndrome, and also the DreamWorks: 42 Movie Collection Blu-ray box set from Random Space Media, which includes every animated film the studio has released so far from Antz (1998) to The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021).
