All right, I want to start today by summarizing all of the new disc reviews The Bits review team has shared here in the last week or so, since my last My Two Cents news update…

Criterion’s September slate includes High and Low, This Is Spinal Tap & Flow in 4K, plus Lois & Clark on Blu-ray & more!
We’re starting the week here at The Bits with more new disc reviews and some great announcement news as well!
But first, I just wanted to let you all know that we’ve stabilized the website to address some software and loading issues that we’ve been experiencing recently. We’re not 100% back to normal, but the site should at least be loading faster now than it was before. We’ll be doing some additional upgrades in the week ahead, so more on that topic soon.
In the meantime, we’ve shared a bunch of great new disc reviews here on the site today and over the weekend. Among them are…
My review (with longtime Bits contributor Adam Jahnke) of William Friedkin’s Sorcerer (1977) in 4K Ultra HD from the Criterion Collection! The disc streets on 6/24, and the A/V quality is superb.
I’ve also reviewed the new UFO: The Complete SHADO Files Blu-ray box set from our friends at Imprint Television, which contains the best HD quality of any Blu-ray release of Gerry Anderson’s UFO (1970-71) to date, along with the most complete collection of special features.
Also new today is Dennis’ look at Jaume Collet-Serra’s The Woman in the Yard (2025) on Blu-ray from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures Home Entertainment.
And Stephen has taken an in-depth look at Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett’s Abigail (2024) in 4K Ultra HD from Universal via Scream Factory.
More new disc reviews are definitely on the way all this week, so be sure to watch out for them! [Read on here...]

More Eastwood 4K updates, plus an Abbott & Costello Horror Collection in Ultra HD, new Eureka Blu-ray titles, the Andor: S2 trailer drops at last & more!
We’ve got several new 4K and Blu-ray reviews for you all to enjoy today, including...
Stephen’s exhaustive and in-depth take on David Fincher’s Panic Room (2002) in 4K Steelbook from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, as well as his thoughts on Peter R. Hunt’s Shout at the Devil (1976) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics, and also Tobe Hooper’s Lifeforce (1985) in 4K Ultra HD from Arrow Video in the UK. And for the record, I think Stephen’s take on Panic Room is right on the money and well worth reading for 4K enthusiasts. (Especially you young whippersnappers who seem to think a 4K disc must be absolutely reference quality to have any value—gather ‘round, Professor Bjork is teaching class.)
My review of Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) in 4K Ultra HD from Italy’s Eagle Pictures via their 4Kult line, a disc that features an encode optimized for a 100GB disc (and which is a notable improvement over the Paramount Presents 4K release).
Dennis thoughts on Carl Reiner’s Summer Rental (1985) on Blu-ray from Kino Lorber Studio Classics.
And finally Tim’s look at the excellent Tom and Jerry: The Complete CinemaScope Collection on Blu-ray from our friends at the Warner Archive Collection.
More reviews are on the way this week, including my thoughts on Gladiator II and Amadeus in 4K, Tim’s look at Arrow’s Mexico Trilogy in 4K, and more. So be sure to keep your eyes peeled for those.
In announcement news today, Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment has now confirmed that non-Steelbook 4K versions of all the recent Clint Eastwood titles are due on 4/15 as well, including Dirty Harry (1971), The Outlaw Josey Wales (1976), and Pale Rider (1985). It looks like all three films will feature new Dolby Atmos mixes with HDR10 high dynamic range. You can see the Amaray covers below the break. [Read on here...]

Universal sets Wolf Man for 4K, plus the Saturn Awards, Mufasa, September 5 & more announcements!
Afternoon, Bits readers... and welcome to the first week of February!
Tim is taking a much-deserved week off to spend time with his family, but we’ll have plenty of news content here and maybe a review or two as well in the meantime.
Last night, my wife Sarah and I attended The 52nd Annual Saturn Awards here in Los Angeles, produced by The Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror Films. It was a lovely evening, a chance to catch up with industry friends, brush elbows with genre celebs (think Nicolas Cage, William Shatner, Mark Hamill, Peter Weller, Christopher Lloyd, Laurence Fishburne, tons of Star Trek cast members, etc), and to celebrate great work in genre entertainment. Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two took home the Best Science Fiction Film award, as it well should! Denis himself also won for Best Film Director—a nice show of appreciation for the filmmaker, especially given that he wasn’t nominated for Best Director by the Academy this year, despite Dune: Part Two being nominated for the Best Picture. Go figure.
In the Home Media categories, the key winners were:
- Best Classic Film Home Media Release: Invasion of the Body Snatchers (Kino Lorber Studio Classics)
- Best 4K Home Media Release: Saw X (Lionsgate Home Entertainment)
- Best Film Home Media Collection: Batman: 85th Anniversary Collection (Warner Home Video)
- Best Television Home Media Release: Star Wars: Andor – The Complete First Season (Sony Pictures Home Entertainment)
We actually had the good fortune to be seated at the same table as Kino Lorber’s VP of Acquisitions and Business Development, Frank Trazi, who—since he lives on the East Coast—I hadn’t had the chance to meet before. But trust me when I say that Frank is good people, and that KLSC’s fantastic slate of upcoming Blu-ray and 4K titles is in great hands with him. You can watch his new podcast, Shelf Space with Kino Lorber, here on YouTube.
In any case, the event was great fun and it was streamed live online here and on Roku. You can read the complete list of winners here at Deadline today. And all of us here at The Bits would like to offer our congratulations to Frank and everyone at KLSC for their win for Invasion of the Body Snatchers (you can see their actual Saturn statue below the break), to our friend Cliff Stephenson and everyone at Lionsgate for their 4K win with Saw X, and to the disc teams at Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment for their wins as well!. [Read on here...]

Paramount makes Addams Family Values official for 4K with new extras, plus Twisters hits digital tomorrow & more
We’ve got three new disc reviews to start the week, as well as some significant release news. So more on the latter in a minute...
Stuart has weighed in with a look at Edward Dmytryk’s Obsession (1949) on Blu-ray from Indicator here at The Bits today.
And Dennis has turned in his thoughts on Quarxx’s Pandemonium (2023) on Blu-ray from Arrow Video, as well as Basil Dearden’s The Man Who Haunted Himself (1970) on Blu-ray from Imprint.
Now then... the big news this afternoon is that Universal Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that the Digital release of Lee Isaac Chung’s Twisters (2024) will drop tomorrow on 8/13. It’ll come with deleted scenes and a gag reel. We don’t have an official street date yet for the physical media release, but that should follow in the weeks ahead as all physical SKUs are now available for pre-order. [Read on here...]
