All right, we promised more release news today, and more release news we’ve got for you...

Starting with this: Sony Pictures is releasing Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind on Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD on 9/19, in honor of the film’s 40th anniversary and fully-remastered in 4K. The film is also being re-released into theaters on 9/1. We don’t have details yet on any new extras (nor audio and HDR), but you can assume that all the previous Blu-ray extras will carry over. You can see the final cover artwork to the left and below, and both SKUs are now available for pre-order on Amazon.com by clicking here and here. There’s also a deluxe 4K/BD edition that includes a 64-page book and packaging that lights up and plays the film’s iconic theme.

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will also release Jonathan Teplitzky’s Churchill on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/3. The film stars Brian Cox, Miranda Richardson, and John Slattery. [Read on here…]

Paramount Pictures has officially announced Baywatch for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and 4K Ultra HD on 8/29, with the Digital HD release due on 8/15. Extras will include both the theatrical and extended versions of the films, 3 featurettes, and deleted and extended scenes. Audio on the 4K disc will be English Dolby Atmos.

While we’re talking Paramount and 4K, the studio has just committed to employing both Dolby Atmos audio and Dolby Vision HDR on select upcoming 4K titles. More here at Home Media.

And CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution are releasing a wave of TV series Christmas specials on DVD on 10/10, including Frasier, The Brady Bunch, The Honeymooners, and Sabrina, The Teenage Witch.

Moving on, we’ve learned that Universal’s 4K Ultra HD release of Steven Spielberg’s E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial will include DTS:X audio, HDR-10 high dynamic range, and the following extras on Blu-ray (carried over from the previous edition): The E.T. Journals, Steven Spielberg & E.T., The Music of E.T.: A Discussion with John Williams, Designs, Photographs and Marketing of E.T., E.T. Designs by Production Illustrator Ed Verreaux, E.T. Designs by Carlo Rambaldi, Spaceship Designs by Ralph McQuarrie, Designs by Production Illustrator Ed Verreaux, Production Photographs, Marketing E.T. A Look Back, The E.T. Reunion, The 20th Anniversary Premiere, Deleted Scenes, and the theatrical trailer.

Lionsgate has just set Warm Bodies for release on 4K Ultra HD Combo format on 10/3, with all the previous Blu-ray extras. The press release indicates that the 4K disc will include Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. Also that day, look for Kick-Ass on 4K Ultra HD Combo, including the previous Blu-ray extras and Dolby Atmos audio (no mention of Dolby Vision HDR so assume HDR-10). The studio has also set The Last Face for release on Blu-ray, DVD, and Digital HD on 9/5.

Disney, Marvel, and Netflix have just set Jessica Jones: The Complete First Season and Daredevil: The Complete Second Season for Blu-ray and DVD release on 8/22.

For U.K. readers, Eureka! has set Lubitsch in Berlin for release on Blu-ray on 9/18, including 6 early classic films by the German director, among them I Don’t Want to Be a Man (1918), The Doll (1919), The Oyster Princess (1919), Sumurun (1920), Anna Boleyn (1920), and The Mountain Cat (1921).

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has set American Horror Story: Roanoke for release on Blu-ray and DVD on 10/3, including The Paley Center for Media: Q&A with Cast and Creative Team and a collection of promos.

Fox has also set My Cousin Rachel on Blu-ray and DVD on 8/29.

Broadgreen Pictures has set Lucy Walker’s Buena Vista Social Club: Adios for release on DVD and Digital HD on 9/12.

FUNimation is releasing Space Dandy: The Complete Series on Blu-ray on 10/24 (SRP $69.98).

And IndiePix Films will release A Blast on DVD and Digital HD on 9/22.
