We’re starting things off today with a quick heads-up: Amazon is having a sale on select anime titles on Blu-ray and DVD today, and the titles include Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series and Space Battleship Yamato. Worth checking out if you’re interested and the link is here.

And speaking of 4K, our own Matthew Weflen has just posted his thoughts on A Quiet Place on the format from Paramount. He has a few issues with the film. Click the review to learn more.

In announcement news today, Shout! Factory has just announced the 1/8 Blu-ray release of their When Harry Met Sally...: Collector’s Edition as part of their Shout Select line-up. The film is mastered from a new 4K scan. Extras will include all the legacy special features, along with the new Scenes from a Friendship interview featurette with Rob Reiner and Billy Crystal. First up... Universal has set The Boxtrolls for Blu-ray and DVD release on 1/20/15. They also have a triple feature Blu-ray set of all three Laika stop-motion films, The Boxtrolls, ParaNorman, and Coraline, coming that same day.  [Read on here…]

We kick off the new week with another new Hell Plaza Oktoberfest review from Dr. Jahnke, this time featuring a look at David Cronenberg’s Scanners as released on Blu-ray from Criterion. Don’t miss it!

In announcement news today, Warner Home Video has moved the street date for its Batman: 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-ray to 12/9 (from 11/11). Keep in mind, the only new feature on this disc is the Batman: The Birth of the Modern Blockbuster featurette.  [Read on here…]

All right, we’ve got some cool news for you anime fans. FUNimation has officially announced that their planned Cowboy Bebop: The Complete Series will finally arrive on Blu-ray Disc (and also DVD) in December. Four versions are planned: A DVD standard edition, a Blu-ray standard edition, an Amazon-exclusive BD/DVD combo premium edition, and a second BD/DVD Combo premium edition that will be exclusive to the FUNimation.com site. The exclusive versions will include different packaging and collectable swag items TBA. To round out the week today, our own Tim Salmons has checked with one more Blu-ray review for you: Conrack (1974) as originally released by Fox and now available on disc in HD via Twilight Time. Enjoy!

All right, the big news today is that Walt Disney Home Entertainment has just delivered on the classic catalog animation front as we expected them to: The studio has just officially set The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad: Special Edition, the Bedknobs and Broomsticks: Special Edition, the Hercules: Special Edition, the Mickey, Donald, Goofy: The Three Musketeers – 10th Anniversary Edition, and the Tarzan: Special Edition for Blu-ray/DVD Combo release on 8/12 (SRP $29.99 each). In addition, Disney has also just officially set the Sleeping Beauty: Diamond Edition for Blu-ray Combo release on 10/7 ($36.99).
